The new Omicron variant has triggered travel bans on countries from southern Africa.
But the spread of the virus is also affecting countries around the world with governments rushing to implement protocols to combat infection.
However, this does not mean that those looking to travel over the festive period will not be allowed to.
Instead, those who want to spend time abroad can do so by following the travel restrictions in place in various nations.
With Scandinavia being a hotspot for winter travel, tourists may want to check the requirements before landing at the borders of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.

Norway
If you’re travelling to Norway there are a few things to consider.
Due to the Omicron variant, all travellers arriving in Norway must complete registration prior to arrival regardless of vaccination status.
Whether you have received the jab or not, visitors will need to take a Covid test after arrival.
Tests can be taken at points of arrival such as airports or 24 hours prior to arrival in the country.
And from November 26, all arrivals will be required to register online to allow authorities to follow-up on a Covid-19 outbreak.

Sweden
There is currently a temporary travel ban on entry to Sweden due to the new Omicron variant.
When entering from the UK visitors must present a negative Covid-19 test or a vaccine certificate issued.
Any traveller who has spent time in any country outside Scandinavia in the last 7 days is encouraged to get tested for Covid-19 as soon as possible after entry into Sweden.
Travellers who are not vaccinated will need to show proof that they are exempt from the current travel ban.
They must also have a valid test taken in the last 48 hours or proof that they’re exempt from the testing requirements.

Finland
The rules on entry to Finland varies depending on vaccination status.
Those who have recovered from the covid-19 virus and have gotten one vaccine dose is equated to a complete covid-19 vaccination.
Travellers with a certificate of a complete and valid vaccination, or who have one certificate of recovering from the covid-19 and having gotten one vaccine dose, may also enter Finland.
Those who have not received the vaccine or qualify for vaccinated status will need to provide evidence of an essential or compassionate reason to enter the country.
They will also be required to take a Covid test no later than 24 hours after arrival.

Denmark
Vaccinated travellers will be able to enter the border without testing or isolation requirements.
However, those who have not been vaccinated may need to take a test upon arrival and possibly self-isolate for 10 days after arriving.
